Prayer Series – Dreams

It is a blessing enjoyed by humans – the ability to dream.

Psalm 126:1-3

When the Lord restored the fortunes of Zion, we were like those who dream.
Then our mouth was filled with laughter, and our tongue with shouts of joy; then they said among the nations, “The Lord has done great things for them.”
The Lord has done great things for us; we are glad.

We all have dreams. Whether we recognize them as such or ignore them. Whether we attain them, strive for them, or toss them aside. There is something to be said about our spouse and their approach to their dreams. We are talking about dreams as in ambitions rather than the dreams that fill our sleeping hours, although sometimes they can do both.

What are your spouse’s dreams? Are they possibilities? Are they childhood dreams or those that have come with the maturity of life? Do they have dreams that they will never achieve? Do they have dreams that have already come true? Do they have dreams that have been modified in some form? Do they acknowledge their dreams? Are they chasing their dreams? Have any of their dreams been crushed? Do they ignore their dreams? Have they been forced to put aside their dreams?

Take the time to think about the answers to some (or all) of these questions. How would your spouse answer these questions about themselves?

This week, focus your prayers on your spouse and their dreams.

Pray that God show your spouse the dreams that he wants them to achieve.

Ask God to reveal Himself to your spouse in those dreams.

Ask God to help your spouse set aside any dreams that He does not want them to pursue.

Pray that God give your spouse the strength and motivation to chase their dreams.

Ask God to give your spouse the wisdom to know what dreams to pursue and when.

Ask God to give your spouse the patience to wait on His timing for those dreams.

Pray that God give your spouse others who will lift them up in pursuing their dreams.

Ask God to put people in your spouse’s path that will help them pursue those dreams.

Ask God to provide comfort for those dreams that must be changed.

Pray that all of your spouse’s dreams will glorify God.

Ask God to show you how you can help your spouse determine their dreams and pursue them.

Thank God for those dreams that have already come true for your spouse.

Prayer Series – Struggles

There was only one time in humanity when we did not have to struggle.

Genesis 3:23

…therefore the Lord God sent him out from the garden of Eden to work the ground from which he was taken.

We had it made in the Garden of Eden. All of our needs were supplied. Once sin entered the picture we became creatures of struggle. We all struggle with something. Perhaps many things. Your spouse has struggles that are unique to them. We speak in generalities here because we do not know what is specific to your spouse, but you can tweak these questions and prayer to be specific if you need to.

What kind of struggles does your spouse have? Do you know them? Are there things that they struggle with that they cannot see? How do they deal with the struggles they have? Do they internalize the struggles? Do they communicate those struggles? Do they deal with those struggles directly? Do they ignore the struggles until they no longer can? What struggles appear to be the hardest ones for them to deal with? Are there ways that you can help them with their struggles?

Take the time to think about the answers to some (or all) of these questions. How would your spouse answer these questions about themselves?

This week, focus your prayers on your spouse and their struggles.

Pray that God show your spouse what they struggle with if they are not already aware.

Pray that God reveal himself in a mighty way in the midst of their struggles.

Ask that God comfort your spouse and walk beside them during those struggles.

Ask God to give your spouse the strength to deal with these struggles in a healthy way.

Pray that God provide other people to help your spouse with those struggles that are too big for them to handle on their own.

Pray that God give your spouse the motivation to walk through those struggles.

Ask God to give your spouse wisdom and discernment in dealing with their particular struggles.

Ask God to help your spouse put Him first in their life.

Ask God to show you how you can be an encouragement to your spouse while they struggle.

Thank God for what a blessing your spouse is to you.

Prayer Series – Relationships

Whether your spouse is an introvert or an extrovert, whether their family is large or it is made only of you, your spouse will have relationships outside of you and God.

John 15:13-14

Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends. You are my friends if you do what I command you.

God created humans with a need to be relational. To have a relationship with Him as well as others. Some relationships are out of necessity, others are out of love and loyalty, still others are held together by tenuous threads. No matter what kind of relationships your spouse has, they will always have a need for prayer over them. Prayer is the one thing that you, as a spouse, can do to help them.

What kind of relationships does your spouse have? How are their relationships with their family, their friends, their co-workers? Does your spouse have particular relationships that are in need of prayer because they are damaged or weak at best? Are there any relationships that they would like to see healed or strengthened? Are there relationships that they need to be healed from? What relationships would your spouse consider good? Are there relationships that they need encouragement to build? Are there relationships that they should cultivate? Are there relationships that they need to step away from? What things could they do to make their relationships better? Are there ways that you can help them make those relationships better?

Take the time to think about the answers to some (or all) of these questions. How would your spouse answer these questions about themselves?

This week, focus your prayers on your spouse and their relationships.

Pray that God show your spouse the state of their relationships.

Ask God to heal any of your spouse’s broken relationships.

Ask God to give your spouse strength to walk away from harmful relationships.

Pray that God give your spouse motivation to work on their relationships.

Ask God to give your spouse good relationships.

Pray that God protect your spouse from bad relationships.

Ask God to give your spouse wisdom and discernment in all of their relationships.

Ask God to help you spouse put Him first in all of their relationships.

Prayer Series – Contentment

Content: A state of satisfaction

Philippians 4:11

I am not saying this because I am in need, for I have learned to be content whatever the circumstances.

Being content is an important thing because if we are content, our focus can be more securely on God and those things that He has called us to do. Sometimes when we feel that something is perfect (or very close to it), we perceive that as being content. We can be content in those circumstances, but the key, as Paul states in Phil. 4:11, is that we be content whatever the circumstances. Our prayers this week will focus on our spouse obtaining contentment in any of their circumstances (good, bad or indifferent).

Do you think your spouse is content overall? Is your spouse content some of the time? Is your spouse discontent? How would your spouse describe their level of contentment? Does your spouse recognize the importance of being content? Does your spouse recognize that true contentment comes from God? Is your spouse plugged in to God? Does your spouse actively seek out ways to attain contentment in their lives? Is your spouse struggling with discontentment in their lives? Are there specific areas of their lives that cause them to be discontent regularly? Is your spouse positive or negative by nature? Are there ways that you can help them with any struggles they have to find contentment? What things do you say and/or do that add to or detract from your spouse’s contentment?

Take the time to think about the answers to some (or all) of these questions. How would your spouse answer these questions about themselves?

This week, focus your prayers on your spouse and their state of contentment.

Pray that God show your spouse the state of their contentment.

Pray that God show your spouse true contentment.

Ask God to help your spouse with those areas of discontentment in their lives.

Pray that God gives your spouse the desire to know Him more.

Ask God to give your spouse the strength and motivation to do those things that build up contentment.

Pray that God will remove those things that are a distraction to your spouse in growing with Him.

Pray that God walk with them through their journey to be content whatever their circumstances.

Ask God to show Himself to your spouse in tangible ways.

Ask God to help you be an encouragement to your spouse.

Pray a blessing over your spouse and their state of contentment.

Thank God for what a blessing your spouse is to you.
